Natalie Kiel, UX/UI Designer

Hi, my name is Natalie and I joined the Contact Advantage team in July 2019.

A little more about me...
I was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. I love Glasgow but I have been lucky enough to travel to different countries over the years and experience many different cultures. My music taste is heavily influenced by my mum so you’ll always find me at an Earth, Wind and Fire gig. So, I guess to sum me up, I’m a disco diva with a severe travel bug.

In the last year of school, we were able to crash subjects we had no prior knowledge of. I saw “Product Design”, a subject we didn’t have at my old school, so I thought why not and chose it. I fell in love with it and I have never looked back since.

After this, I studied Product Design and Innovation and Design Engineering both at the University of Strathclyde. And, went on to do a Product Design internship, which was a great experience living and working in China. Now, I am lucky to be able to do a job that I love as well as work with such a great team of people at Contact Advantage.
We asked Natalie some questions...
  1. Congratulations on winning employee of the month, it was very well deserved.
Thank you, it was a complete surprise. To receive such positive feedback about the work I have been doing is so rewarding and I really appreciate it.
  2. Tell us a little bit about your role and the tasks you've been involved in?
My main responsibility is to redesign the component parts of the V8 application to take the product forward in both design and usability. This included the redesign of the dynamic Dashboard and associated widgets, diary and event creation I/O, login screen, application iconography, and training videos.
  3. Sounds great! What does the role of an UX/UI designer involve?
Understanding the design brief is the most important thing, only then can you deliver a design that meets the needs and requirements of the user. It involves working in a multidisciplinary team, gathering information from all roles and then illustrating ideas through mocks and prototypes.
  4. How would you describe working at Contact Advantage in 3 words?
For me, it would be happy, supportive and educational. The team create such a happy work environment that helped me settle in so well. They've been so supportive, especially my manager Kenny who has really helped me find my feet in this new role.
  5. When you're not at work, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I would usually say the gym but now it's home workouts and going out for walks. I’ve also been trying to meditate on a daily basis.
  6. Living in a world of gadgets, what is the one thing you couldn't live without?
Oh definitely my Babyliss Big Hair Brush, I wouldn’t like to think about how my hair would look without it. Take my phone, but not my brush.
  7. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
I’d take my friends and family on a 2 week cruise ,and I might just buy the ship as well.
  8. If you could meet someone (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
Tom Hanks. I’m a huge fan, I love all his movies and I would love to hear all his stories about his career as an actor.
  9. And finally, a few more?
    Apple or Android? Apple
Sunshine or Snow? Snow (as long as it doesn’t cause road issues)
    Roast or Curry? Roast
Sweet or Savoury - Both (sweet and salty popcorn is my favourite)
    Comedy or Thriller? Thriller
